Window shopping #27
Cockpit security gets an upgrade, a collab with The Coppola Hideaways, and The White Lotus picks its next muse
This is Window Shopping, a weekly mini-letter from Window Seat—your stylish scroll through what’s new and noteworthy in the world of travel. Each issue blends timely headlines, personal favorites, and design-forward hotels to keep your wanderlust well-fed.
From Stanglwirt to Belize, Comme Si keeps chasing the mood of a really good hotel. The brand’s latest capsule is a collaboration with The Coppola Hideaways, inspired by two of the family’s most design-forward resorts in Belize: Turtle Inn and Blancaneaux Lodge. I’m loving Comme Si’s continued commitment to thoughtful partnerships and the way each one leans into a real sense of place.
Looks like France will be getting The White Lotus treatment for S4. While HBO hasn’t confirmed the exact location, if they film at a Four Seasons property (as they have in seasons past), that narrows it down to three contenders: the chic Four Seasons Megève in the French Alps, the opulent George V in Paris, and the legendary Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the Riviera. Wherever it is, expect a tourism boom to follow (not that France is exactly hurting for visitors).
Twenty years later, air travel continues to evolve in response to 9/11. Southwest just became the first U.S. airline to install a secondary barrier door between the cockpit and the front galley. These folding gates lock into place to prevent passengers from accessing the area when the cockpit door is open, protecting both the pilots and the flight deck during moments of vulnerability (like, say, when a pilot takes a bathroom break). By August of next year, all U.S. airlines will be required to install them, per a post-9/11 FAA ruling. It’s a sobering reminder that despite all the years that have passed, the legacy of that day continues to shape how we fly.
The past two years were hard on a lot of things, but most notably my nervous system and, unexpectedly, my hair. I noticed it shedding like crazy after starting a high-pressure job (which I’ve since left), and the only thing my doctors could point to after a myriad of testing was, of course, stress. So I got a script for Minoxidil and decided to treat my hair like it was in recovery.
Luckily, I already had some good habits in place. I’ve invested in quality hairbrushes (one for at home, and one that travels with me), wrap my hair in a silk bonnet every night, and swapped my showerhead for a Jolie. But here’s everything else that’s been helping (some I’ve added to my routine, plus a few longtime staples):
Pre-wash ritual: Once a week I’ll use Ceremonia’s Aceite de Moska Scalp Oil and work it in using their scalp massager. I got a high frequency wand years ago for my skin (for $67!), but it also comes with a comb attachment you can use to stimulate your scalp/hair growth. I’ve been trying to use that a couple times per week, too.
In the shower: I am fiercely loyal to RŌZ shampoo and conditioner (I’ve repurchased 3x now). I wash my hair 2-3x per week.
Post-wash: I wrap my hair in the Crown Affair hair towel, then apply Wella’s Miracle Hair Rescue and their Protective Leave-In, both of which have been genuinely restorative for my hair.
Nighttime care: Before bed, I work in a few pumps of the Kerastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum, then tuck it into my silk bonnet.
Daily refreshing: If my hair feels dry, I gloss the ends with OGX Coconut Oil. And to tame the halo of baby hairs I now have growing in, I’m very thankful for Dae’s aptly-named taming wand.
I know a lot of people are experiencing hair shedding or thinning right now too, so I wanted to share what’s been working for me in case it helps you feel a little more in control. <3
The Brecon — Adelboden, Switzerland
One thing about me: I love a homey hotel framed by a lush mountain backdrop. In Adelboden, The Brecon feels like an an escape from the stuffy pretension of other Swiss resort towns. With just 22 rooms, it’s intimate in scale but big on personality, with interiors that feel like stepping into a chic friend’s 1970s-inspired living room. They had me at “guests-only” spa and a rooftop pool with a panoramic view.
